

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recognized six institutions in the Visayas region for their contributions to the central monetary authority's mandate in crafting fiscal policies and programs through data sharing.
The Visayas honorees for 2022 include two banks in Roxas City and Cebu, banker associations in Bohol and Iloilo, a civic organization chapter in a university in Cebu, and a private supermarket in Iloilo, all of whom received certificates of recognition at the "2022 Outstanding BSP Stakeholders Appreciation Ceremonies" held at the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City on Tuesday. Feb. 28.
In a video message, Monetary Board Chairman and BSP Governor Felipe Medalla said the event was an "opportunity to honor its partner stakeholders" in crafting fiscal policies and programs for the Filipino people.
Medalla stated that the BSP has been honoring organizations and industry players that have provided critical support in fulfilling their mandates through various initiatives such as research and statistical endeavors, information-sharing requirements, and advocacy programs since its inception in 2004.
The honorees were led by two banking institutions: Landbank of the Philippines (LBP) Roxas City Branch and Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank) Cebu.
The Bohol Bankers Association, Inc., and the Bankers Association of Iloilo received the award for their outstanding contributions to the BSP's efforts to stabilize the country's fiscal positions in the midst of the pandemic.
The Cebu Institute of Technology's University Chapter's Junior Financial Executives has been recognized for their contributions to the central monetary authority's research and information needs. The Iloilo Supermarket, Inc. was the other honoree.
The honorees, he said, assisted the BSP in developing respondent-based "surveys for consumer behaviors and welfare-enhancing issues critical in the implementation of appropriate, responsive, and well-calibrated policy actions."
The honorees were nominated by the various branches of the BSP in the Visayas, according to Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
She added that efforts to fully digitalize banking and commercial payment transactions play a significant role in nominating organizations for the BSP stakeholders' appreciation award.
