The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has completed 95 percent of the preparations for the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on October 30.
Interviewed during DILG sa DZRH Breaktime on Wednesday, July 5, COMELEC chairperson George Garcia said that the government still needs to print at least 1.3 million ballots before the upcoming polls.
"Iyon yung nagpa-register mula December 12 hanggang January 30," he said.
Garcia also revealed that COMELEC removed around 491,000 double or multiple registrants from the national list of registered voters.
As part of the preparations, the poll body will hold a command conference with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) regarding the peace and order situation across the country.
The COMELEC chief said that the command conference will also deliberate on which areas need to be placed under COMELEC control.
He said that the poll body will also need to complete the training of teachers who will serve as electoral board members.
Garcia reminded the public that the election period will start on August 28.
"Ibig sabihin diyan magsisimula yung ban sa tinatawag na firearms. Diyan din magsisimula yung public works ban. Diyan din magsismula yung social services ban," Garcia said.
"Maliban na lang kung makakakuha sa amin ng exemption yung mga LGU o individual na gustong kumuha ng gun ban exemption, exemption sa public works ban, o exemption sa social services ban," Garcia added.
Meanwhile, the campaign period will begin on October 19.
