Brian Poe Llamanzares, the first nominee of the FPJ Panday Bayanihan Partylist, has called on Filipinos to prioritize local products this holiday season.
In a recent statement, he urged consumers to be mindful of the quality of imported goods and the increasing threat of online scams.
"This Christmas, let’s make a conscious effort to shop local," Poe said.
While acknowledging that imported goods may seem more affordable and offer a wider variety, Poe emphasized the need for caution regarding their quality. He also raised concerns about the impact of imported products on local businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that often struggle to compete with cheaper, mass-produced goods.
"Supporting local businesses means investing in our own communities. It means creating jobs, supporting families, and building a stronger economy for everyone," Poe explained.
In addition, Poe addressed the rising threat of online shopping scams, warning that many Filipinos fall victim to fraudulent calls, texts, and online advertisements. He cited concerns raised by Nikkei Asia, which recently described the Philippines as an emerging hub for online shopping fraud.
"It’s a serious problem that requires our attention," Poe said.
Poe urged consumers to thoroughly research products and consider their origin and quality before making purchases.
"Let’s be more mindful of where our money goes," he added.
