Senator Christopher Lawrence 'Bong' Go has recommended former president Rodrigo Duterte as the country's anti-drug czar who will help the national government in its campaign against illegal drugs.
Go floated the suggestion during the Senate panel hearing on the seizure of&nbsp; ₱6.7 billion of shabu in 2022 which involved some Philippine National Police (PNP) officials.
"Kung sasakali lang.. Perogative naman iyan ng presidente [President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.], ng appointing authority, kung saka-sakali lang, makakatulong ba kung itatalagang drug czar si dating pangulong Duterte?" the Senator asked PNP chief Benjamin Acorda Jr.
Acorda replied and said he would support "any campaign against illegal drugs."
Go appealed to the PNP Chief to not waste the former president's previous effort in combating illegal drugs.
"Kapag bumalik ang illegal na droga, alam na natin na babalik ang kriminalidad at babalik yung korapsyon. Ayun lang pakiusap namin, Sir sa iyo," he added.&nbsp;
Acroda, meanwhile, assured that they will file necessary charges against PNP officials who are involved in the illegal drug trade.
During his term in office, Duterte was known for his bloody war against illegal drugs campaign where 6,252 drug pushers and users were killed, based on the government's latest data.
