Over the weekend, a bombmaker from the illegal Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIFF) was killed in a shootout with officials in Shariff Saydona Mustapha town, Maguindanao del Sur province.
In an interview Monday, Lt. Col. Udgie Villan, acting commander of the Army's 33rd Infantry Battalion, identified the slain rebel as Datu Guibo, an accused BIFF bomb maker and courier.
According to Villan, the joint forces of 33IB and the Provincial Police Mobile Force Company were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Guibo last Saturday when they were fired upon by the suspect's group.
Guibo was killed, while his comrades fled quickly. Pagcog stated that a firearm and an anti-personnel mine were recovered.
On the government side, no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, on Friday last week, six Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) surrendered to the Army's 36IB in Midsayap town, North Cotabato province.
During surrender ceremonies in Barangay Salunayan, Midsayap, the rebels surrendered guns, including a handmade sniper rifle, and ammo.
In Maguindanao and North Cotabato, 56 BIFF militants have surrendered to the Army since January.
