After concluding its investigation into alleged human smuggling at the airport, as revealed by Senator Grace Poe during her February 15 privilege speech, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee (SBRC) anticipates new reforms at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The chair of the blue ribbon committee, Senator Francis Tolentino, encouraged the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to remain consistent and steadfast in implementing its policies and to be fair to all passengers.
Tolentino likewise encouraged the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) to hold a discussion about the current system, particularly regarding police exit and MIAA clearances.
Tolentino added that the committee would expect recommendations on how to improve the system from various agencies.
During the previous hearing, Tolentino determined that the private plane, which allegedly carried "unauthorized individuals," was able to depart from NAIA bound for Dubai due to a lack of coordination between the PNP-AVSEGROUP and the control tower.
