A series of explosions occurred early Thursday morning at an alleged flood control project site along Andrews Avenue, corner of Bac-1 11 in Pasay City, according to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort.
Residents in the area said they heard three explosions, with the third being the loudest. The incident happened just before 5 a.m.
After the explosions, the body of a man surfaced from the excavation site. However, as of writing, he has not been officially declared dead.
The man's live-in partner was able to identify him through his tattoos. He was later confirmed to be a scavenger.
Near the upper portion of the excavation site, investigators found a pair of slippers. A screwdriver and a handsaw were also recovered from inside the pit.
According to Pasay City Police officer PSSg Gerald Royo, it is possible that the man was tampering with something in the pit, where the screwdriver and handsaw were found.
Engr. Zon Matienza of Meralco said it is possible that the man was sawing through a span cable along the side of the pit, which may have caused the three explosions.
Police are continuing to gather more information to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The man's body was retrieved from the pit shortly after 9 AM.
