The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said that 28 erring employees have been sacked or suspended since last year.
According to the BIR, the causes for dismissal range from grave misbehavior to substantial dishonesty, multiple unauthorized absences, fabrication of official records, excessive carelessness of duty, insubordination, and absence without official leave.
Twenty-six employees were let go, while two others were suspended.
BIR Commissioner Romeo "Jun" Lumagui Jr. said in a statement that employees should remember that they have no business working for the BIR if they do not satisfy the criteria for integrity and professionalism.
The BIR stated that Lumagui is considering conducting regular investigations of BIR staff.
