Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo "Jun" Lumagui Jr. joined the longest-running radio station in the Philippines in celebrating its 85th anniversary.
During an exclusive interview with Dos Por Dos anchor Anthony Taberna, Lumagui said the BIR is one with DZRH in celebrating their 85th anniversary.
The interview also discussed other matters such as the new withholding tax (WHT) rate for online sellers also known as the Revenue Regulations No. 16-2023.
Under the new regulation, remittances of e-marketplace operators and digital financial services providers (DFSPs) to online sellers or merchants are subject to 1% WHT. Such a rate applies to one-half of the gross remittances by the former to the latter.
Lumagui assured online buyers that there would be no effect on the selling price of goods or products as the one to withhold would be the online market.
He also clarified that Revenue Regulations No. 16-2023 is not an additional tax to be paid but a new tax collection system.
The BIR supposedly implemented the new regulations in January of this year but was extended due to the clamors of taxpayers.
Starting Tuesday, July 16, the 1 percent on one-half of WHT for online sellers will take effect.
