The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Gilberto Teodoro Jr. as the new Secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND).
Teodoro was endorsed by the CA Committee on National Defense.
Luis Raymund Villafuerte, CA Majority Leader and Representative for Camarines Sur declared that the delegation from the House of Representatives will not raise any objections to Teodoro's appointment because they had collaborated with the Cabinet official while he was a congressman in Tarlac.
In June, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced Teodoro's position as the new DND Secretary.
Teodoro was also appointed defense secretary under Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's administration. At 43, Teodoro was the youngest person to occupy the role.
He ran for president in 2010 but was defeated by the late Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.
Teodoro also tried to obtain a Senate seat in the 2022 election, but he failed.
After finishing first in his class at the University of the Philippines College of Law, Teodoro topped the bar in 1989.
He graduated from De La Salle University with a bachelor's in commerce with a major in financial institutions.
Teodoro earned his master's in law at Harvard University.
