A Japanese national wanted by Tokyo authorities for involvement in financial fraud was apprehended in Pasay City by Bureau of Immigration (BI) officials.
Sato Shohei, 32, was apprehended by the BI's fugitive search unit (FSU) on April 24 along Newport Boulevard, according to Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
The arresting officials were armed with a warrant issued by the BI chief in response to a summary deportation order issued by the BI Board of Commissioners in February against the foreigner.
Tansingco went on to say that Shohei was already on the immigration blacklist, so he is permanently barred from reentering the nation as an undesirable foreigner.
On the other side, BI-FSU acting chief Rendel Ryan Sy claimed that the foreign person is wanted by a Tokyo summary court after a theft complaint was brought against him in October 2022.
According to Japanese officials, Shohei and many other conspirators conspired to steal money from the bank accounts of victims whose ATM cards they obtained by posing themselves as police officers or financial service agency personnel.
The Japanese is presently being held in the BI warden facility in Taguig City's Camp Bagong Diwa, awaiting deportation.
