The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Monday urged the management of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to conduct a probe on its employee who allegedly gave a fake immigration stamp on the passport of a victim of human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
In a press statement, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the victim, who was supposed to fly to United Arab Emirates (UAE) to work as a household worker, admitted that she was assisted by an NAIA personnel while she was queuing at the BI departure counter.
"She said she was told to fall in line after her handler handed her passport and boarding pass which had the fake BI departure stamps on them," Tansingco said.
An Immigration officer stopped the victim after discovering that the passport had already a stamp which was later confirmed fake as shown in the results of BI's forensic laboratory.
The BI Commissioner said the NAIA management should give their personnel a stern warning.
“They should stop preying on our poor countrymen who want to work abroad due to poverty and their desire to uplift the lives of their families. We thus urge airport authorities to dig deeper into these shenanigans and file the cases against those involved,” he stressed.
