The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to deport a South Korean national who was arrested and is wanted for drug-related crimes.

The 40-year-old South Korean national was arrested on October 4 at the Bureau of Immigration's main office in Intramuros, Manila, after operatives from the Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) received a tip about his presence inside the Bureau's premises.

BI Commissioner Joel Viado stated that the fugitive is classified as an undesirable alien due to overstaying as a tourist, warranting his deportation for illegally remaining in the country.

The South Korean national was wanted by authorities and had been the subject of an Interpol Red Notice after being indicted by a court for violating the Narcotics Control Act.

Furthermore, a district court in Cheongju City, South Korea, reportedly issued a warrant for his arrest in August 2022.

His Korean passport was revoked by the South Korean government, rendering him an undocumented alien.

According to authorities, the arrested individual and several accomplices have been running a Telegram chatroom since 2022 to advertise and distribute illegal drugs, including cocaine and hemp cartridges.
