The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Friday that three African nationals were rescued at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport after being suspected of being victims of human trafficking.

According to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, a mother and two minors from Senegal heading to South Korea were rescued at MCIA for having "questionable travel papers" on March 30.

In a statement, Tansingco said that the Africans were held victims by a trafficking syndicate, using the Philippines as a transit point for smuggling illegal aliens to other countries.

On BI's report, the immigration officers recognized that the victims' passports had no arrival stamps when they were about to board a Korean Airlines flight.

It added that the human trafficking victims confessed that they arrived in the country on board a boat after they were asked about their passports having no arrival stamps.

Meanwhile, the agency reported that the victims were surrendered to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Cebu before they were returned to their originating port.
