The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reiterated its reminder to foreign workers employed by Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) to adhere to the government’s deadline to leave the country by year’s end.

Moreover, the deadline coincides with the impending immediate ban on POGOs in the country.

BI Commissioner Joel Viado underscored the importance of the issue as December begins, reminding foreign nationals that they have only 31 days to follow the Philippine government’s directive on halting POGO operations.

The reminder was issued to facilitate a smooth and orderly process for foreign workers affected by the directive. Those impacted are urged to promptly make all necessary travel arrangements.

Viado reported that as of November 7, a total of 21,757 foreign nationals involved in POGO operations voluntarily downgraded their work visas to temporary visitor visas.

Of those who applied for downgrading, 10,821 foreign nationals have already departed the country.

Furthermore, in October, the BI also issued cancellation orders for 12,106 foreign nationals who had yet to downgrade their visas.

Viado warned that individuals who fail to leave before the deadline will face deportation proceedings and be blacklisted.

The BI anticipates that around 20,000 more foreign POGO workers will depart in the coming weeks.
