Agents from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) apprehended a South Korean national identified as a "gambling lord" who is wanted in his home country for illegal gambling offenses.
The 42-year-old suspect has been on the BI's wanted list since 2019, following charges of operating an illegal gambling website that catered to Korean customers placing bets on the outcomes of sports competitions.
This action constituted a violation of the National Sports Promotion Act in his home country.
BI Commissioner Joel Viado reported that the Korean national was apprehended in a well-known entertainment district in Parañaque City on October 12.
Furthermore, he is regarded as an undocumented alien, as his passport has already been revoked by the government.
He will be detained at the Bureau of Immigration's facility within Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig, where he will remain until his deportation.
