The Bureau of Immigration (BI) looks into a possible connivance between a crime syndicate and people working in the premises of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) either for a government or a private entity.
BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said on Thursday, December 1, that the syndicate used 'weak spots' in NAIA to traffic Filipinos to Myanmar for a crypto-scamming job.
"Alam na alam yung mga daanan at yung mga ruta na pwede nila i-abuse," Sandoval said during DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.
During a Senate hearing on Tuesday, November 29, Sen. Risa Hontiveros presented an overseas Filipino worker alias 'Paulo' who did not pass through the immigration counter but managed to get his passport stamped with an 'exit stamp'.
Sandoval deemed the exit stamp as fake since it lacks the necessary security features.
'Paulo' said that he also received a fake identification card for a store inside NAIA so that he can disguise himself as an airport personnel.
Sandoval said that BI intercepted simillar illegal activities since 2014 but the practice vanished for a while.
"It has been going on kasi parang lumilitaw, mawawala tapos babalik din yung mga ganitong issue. 2014, may na-intercept na ganito. There was even a time nag-pretend, nagsuot ng airline uniform," the BI official said.
