Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and fire volunteers are making rounds in several areas in Manila on Friday morning to remind the public about the dangers of firecrackers as they prepare for the New Year celebration.
This initiative is part of the BFP’s Oplan Paalala campaign, which encourages the public to refrain from using fireworks and to be cautious about fire hazards during the holiday season.
In a report by Boy Gonzales, the fire brigade personnel, particularly from the Paco Fire Station in Manila, are focusing on their assigned areas to spread awareness.
FSInsp Sedfrey De Guzman said that the move is part of the government’s continuous effort to discourage the use of firecrackers, especially illegal ones, in order to prevent accidents and injuries.
In addition to the fireworks warning, the campaign also includes reminders to avoid fire risks caused by unattended cooking, overloaded electrical outlets, and other potential fire hazards such as electrical appliances and gadgets that are left plugged in.
