The Basilan Fire Vessel Incident or the M/V Lady Mary Joy 3 wreckage in Baluk-Baluk Island, Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan wrapped up its search and retrieval operations on Saturday, according to an official.

Since there are no more cadavers discovered, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Basilan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office ended their operations on the incident.

The death toll of the incident has reached 29 and 7 more people have remained missing since the M/V Mary Joy 3 caught fire last Wednesday, said Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)

During the incident, the vessel had a total of 252 people including 205 passengers, 35 crewmen, 8 army soldiers, and 4 PCG staff, according to a report.

A spokesperson from the Aleson Shipping Lines who owns the M/V Lady Mary Joy, lawyer Hahs Ibrahim, vows to help the survivors and the families of the victims whether they are listed in the ships’ manifest or not.

There were only 197 names while other passengers possibly had their tickets on the vessel.

We allow them to secure tickets on board since the ship can accommodate and hold more than 400 passengers. In that case, there seemed to be a bigger number that was rescued and recovered more than what was listed in the manifest, Ibrahim said.

Meanwhile, the families of those who lost their loved ones received preliminary financial assistance of ₱25,000 while survivors were given ₱3,000 each.

In addition, the victims also have their respective insurance with the company since they have secured their tickets and will be given medical assistance, in times of need, with a maximum amount of ₱10,000.

The Shipping line is now coordinating with PCG and other agencies to discover other victims involved in the tragedy.
