Fifty-five percent of the 25 metric tons (MT) of imported galunggong have arrived in the country, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reported on Tuesday, January 26.
In a press release, the BFAR said 13,856.64 MT of galunggong arrived in Palawan, days before the lifting of the three-month closed fishing season.
"The current 13,856.64 MT of imported fish augments that market demand for galungong, which supply is expected to be limited due to the annual implementation of the galunggong closed fishing season in Northeast of Palawan," it said.
The BFAR assures that prices of local galunggong will remain stable at Php 280 per kilo while imported ranges from Php 220 to Php 240 despite the closed season at Northeast Palawan.
The closed fishing started last November 1 last year and is expected to end on January 31.
