The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reminded the public to be careful when eating seafood due to the detected red tide in the waters of Western Visayas.

According to the BFAR, at least seven locations in Western Visayas have tested positive for paralytic shellfish poison, including Saplan Bay, Mambuquiao, and Camanci, as well as Batan Bay in Aklan.

Furthermore, the Ocean of Panay, Pilar President Roxas and Roxas City in Capiz, the Ocean of Gigantes Islands, Carles in Iloilo, and the coasts of Altavas, Batan, and New Washingston in Batan Bay.

Moreover, BFAR said that the seas covering Dauis and Tagbiliran in Bohol, even Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur, are positive for red tide.

It said that any shellfish or seafood that is gathered in the above-mentioned areas is not safe to eat.

Amid the red tide, BFAR said that it is still safe to eat fish, shrimp, squid, and crab, as long as these are well-cleaned and the internals are removed prior to cooking.
