Veteran Filipino actor Ronaldo Valdez, whose real name is Ronald James Gibbs, passed away on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 17.
ABS-CBN News reported the 77-year-old actor’s unexpected passing, citing a Quezon City Police District report.
“Veteran film and television actor Ronaldo Valdez has passed away, police confirmed on Sunday,” the broadcast media organization said in a news article.
The cause of the death was not disclosed.
Valdez is the father of actor-comedian Janno Gibbs and actress Melissa Gibbs.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Dec. 18, Janno confirmed his father’s untimely demise.
"It is with great sorrow that I confirm my father's passing. The family would like to request that you respect our privacy in our grieving moment. Your prayers and condolences are much appreciated," he captioned.
Actress Kathryn Bernado, who worked with Valdez in the romantic comedy teleserye “2 Good 2 be True”, paid tribute to the latter by posting photos and videos of them on her Instagram account.
Most of the photos and videos were captured during their taping.

Actress and singer Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez likewise posted a photos of her with the veteran actor on Instagram.
“Always Loved. Never Forgotten. Forever missed. Love you, Tito Ron," she captioned.
Alvarez worked with Kathryn and Valdez in “2 Good 2 Be True”.

Over the course of his five decades in the entertainment industry, Valdez starred in many television shows and movies.
Among his works were “Seven Sundays” (2017), “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” (2011), “Ikaw Lamang” (2013), and “FPJ's Ang Probinsyano” (2015).
