Retired Supreme Court Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin has been appointed as the new Executive Secretary of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
Bersamin, who is the current chairman of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) board of trustees, took his oath before the President on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Malacanang.
He replaced lawyer Vic Rodriguez who stepped down from the said post due to family reasons.
During his stint as Chief Justice, Bersamin voted in favor of burying Marcos Jr.'s late father and namesake at the Libingin Ng Mga Bayani.
He took up law at the University of the East in 1973. In the same year, he took the bar examination wherein he ranked 9th overall.
Bersamin served as a judge in Branch 96 of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court beginning in 1986. In 2003, he was appointed as Court of Appeals associate justice and was promoted to the Supreme Court in 2009.
