Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte vowed to hold those responsible for the shooting of a photojournalist in Barangay Masambong on Thursday accountable.
"On behalf of the entire Quezon City Local Government Unit, the Quezon City Police Department, and all peace-loving QCitizens, I would like to express my outrage and condemnation of the shooting incident that happened today in Barangay Masambong," Belmonte said in a statement.
On Thursday, photojournalist Joshua Abiad of Remate Online and his relatives were ambushed by unidentified gunmen in Quezon City.
According to investigators, at least two guys in a Toyota car moving in the opposite direction opened fire on the victim's vehicle.
After the event, Abiad, his brother, and two minors ages eight and four were all injured and sent to the hospital.
The other three people in the vehicle were uninjured.
The Presidential Task Force on Media Security said that Abiad is a drug court witness for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police.
While it is a relief that Abiad has been pronounced safe, Belmonte stated that "this has not diminished our determination to bring his cowardly attackers to justice."
She emphasized that violence and intimidation have no place in Quezon City and assured that those responsible for the attack will be held accountable.
