The action-historical film "1521: The Quest for Love and Freedom" starring Filipina actress Bea Alonzo and American actors Hector David Jr. and Danny Trejo has won the Sweden Film Awards 2023.

Sweden Film Awards posted a list of winners for September on its website on Monday, Oct. 9.

"1521: The Quest for Love and Freedom" bagged the Feature Film and Best Cinematography Feature Film awards.

Francis Lara Ho, one of the film's producers, expressed how he was elated by the recognition.

"MGA KABABAYAN WE DID IT!!! #1521MOVIE JUST WON IN THE SWEDEN FILM AWARDS 2023!!!" Ho said in a Facebook post.

"Two weeks ago, we shared the breaking news that 1521 The Movie was selected as one of the official selections of SFA. Today, with great honor and excitement we want to announce that “1521: The Quest for Love & Freedom” won in the Sweden Film Awards 2023!!!," he added.

Ho said the film's "historic win" was also a win for Filipinos and Filipino-Americans across the world.

"My family offers this historic WIN as a gift to our Inang Bayan at buong sambayanang Pilipino on our 125th Independence Day as well as to all our Kababayans sa Amerika on our FILAM History Month!!!" he said.

The producer also congratulated all the cast, crew, film's producing partners, as well as the fans who supported the movie.

Bea, the leading lady of the "1521: The Quest for Love and Freedom", has yet to post her sentiments on the international recognition.

The action-historical film was premiered last week, Oct. 2 in selected local and international theaters.

The film is set in the pre-Spanish era period in the country, and it centers on how young native princess with goddess-like beauty named Diwata and Spanish soldier called Enrique fought for their love against all odds.

Aside from the "1521: The Quest for Love and Freedom", international films such as "Loki and Me", "My Method", "Egaliter", and more were recognized at the Sweden Film Awards for September.
