University of the East president Dr. Zosimo Battad stepped down as chairperson of the UAAP Board of Trustees for the 86th season of the collegiate league.
UE announced the resignation of Battad on Wednesday, November 15, in a Facebook post.
"Dr. Zosimo M. Battad, the UE President and Chief Academic Officer, has informed the Board of Trustees of the UAAP that he is resigning his post as the league’s Season 86 Chairman of the Board," the Facebook post read.
While the university did not elaborate on the reason for the resignation of Battad, the move came less than 24 hours after the UAAP slapped a one-game ban against Red Warriors Rookie Precious Momowei.
The suspension stemmed from the second unsportsmanlike foul called on the Senegalese player in the season.
Momowei served his one-game suspension during the match between UE and the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Eagles bested the Red Warriors, 80-74, in the said game.
The suspension also disqualified Momowei from individual awards at the end of the season, including the Rookie of the Year award.
Prior to the suspension, Momowei led the Rookie of the Year Award race.
