On Monday, the Bangsamoro Information Office announced that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is on Red Alert, following the massive flooding that struck the area earlier this month.
The region began experiencing heavy rainfall in the first week of July before escalating to massive flooding, affecting 94,395 families from several barangays in the area.
Previously, flashfloods in the towns of Lanao del Sur and Matanog in Maguindanao del Norte prompted the regional government to deploy response teams for search and rescue operation, relief operation, and other forms of assistance needed.
However, due to the rapid escalation of the emergency situation, the effects of the Southwest Monsoon intensified. Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim of the Bangsamoro Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) raised the alert warning from Blue to Red—the highest form of emergency response.
The BDRRMC is currently in coordination with various government agencies and local governments in ensuring the safety of its citizens.
