The large barge carrier drifted ashore and became stranded near homes in Brgy. Wawa 2, Rosario, Cavite has not yet been pulled back. Residents fear that if they lose vigilance, the barge carrier, now only a few meters away, might crash into their homes.
Interviewed by DZRH reporter RH Jecelle Ricafort on Tuesday, several Philippine Coast Guard personnel stated that five crew members were aboard the barge carrier when it drifted from Tanza, Cavite, but all of them are now safe and in good condition.
When the barge carrier ran aground, a section of the bridge in front of it was damaged after being struck on Monday.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) tried to pull the barge carrier using two tugboats yesterday but were unsuccessful.
To prevent the barge carrier from drifting closer to the residential area, it was temporarily weighted down with water placed aboard.
The arrival of several PCG tugboats is expected at any moment, to make another attempt to move the stranded carrier away from the nearby homes.
