The ashes of the Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu have arrived back in Taiwan after being cremated in Japan, several media outlets reported on Thursday.
The late actress’ family also confirmed the news in a statement, stating that the former’s remains were brought home on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, Taiwan media reported that the ashes were transported via a private jet.
They furthered that the jet arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport at around 3 PM yesterday.
“Thank you to all media friends for waiting for Shi-yuan to come back in such cold weather. She has arrived home safely. She is believed to be happy and worry-free now in heaven,” the statement from her family read, referring to Barbie’s Chinese name.
According to the actress’ family, they will not be organizing a farewell ceremony for Barbie, as she has always been a private person. Although their family is grateful for the love fans have for Barbie, they ask that fans keep the memories of the actress in their hearts instead.
News about Barbie’s passing was reported on Monday, after her sister, Dee Hsu, confirmed the former’s death.
The statement from Dee indicated that Barbie passed away due to flu-related pneumonia, a disease she had contracted while on vacation with her family in Japan during the recent Lunar New Year.
The news of Barbie’s death left many local and international fans (including a majority of Filipinos) in shock. She is best known for her role as Shancai in the Taiwanese drama, “Meteor Garden.”
The show was such a phenomenal hit that it was renewed for a second season titled “Meteor Rain.”
