“Something magical happens when artists come together!” — Lisa Macuja Elizalde
Ballet Manila is set to unveil its landmark production, Florante at Laura, on October 12, 2024, at the Aliw Theater, with additional performances on October 13 and 19 at 5 PM!
This world premiere brings together some of the Philippines' finest dance and musical talents, celebrating yet another Filipino literary masterpiece.
Creative director Lisa Macuja Elizalde describes the production as a magical collaboration. “Something magical happens when artists come together!” she says, reflecting on the excitement surrounding this new project.
The ballet is a result of the creative synergy between choreographers Gerardo Francisco and British choreographer Martin Lawrance, who emphasize the importance of communication in their collaboration. The libretto was crafted by renowned writer Professor Michael Coroza, while National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab composed the original score, performed by the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth, conducted by his son, Toma Cayabyab.
Set against the backdrop of a captivating story written by Francisco "Balagtas" Baltasar, "Florante at Laura" explores themes of love, betrayal, and redemption.
With intricate set designs by Mio Infante, stunning costumes by Otto and Therese Arroyo Hernandez, and evocative lighting by John Batalla, the production is set to create a mesmerizing visual experience.
“We work hard to create art that people will want to watch again and again,” Lisa noted.
All performances will be staged at Aliw Theater, Pasay City. For tickets, visit www.ticketworld.com.ph. To learn more about Ballet Manila and its shows, visit www.balletmanila.com.ph.
