Schoolyear 2024-2025 kicked off for 19.8 million Filipino students on Monday, July 29, although about 800 schools held off starting classes due to the recent monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina.
As of 7:30 AM of July 29, the exact number of enrollees total at 19,870,531. From this figure, over 17 million are enrolled in public schools, and 2.2 million in private schools.
According to data from the Department of Education (DepEd), Region IV-A or CALABARZON has the most students, numbering to 2.8 million. Region III follows at 2.2 million students, then Metro Manila at 2.1 million students.
The agency expects these numbers to rise as late enrollees catch up.
Although many schools were able to begin classes today, 842 postponed their first days to clean facilities in the wake of Typhoon Carina, which caused severe flooding in many areas.
