Baguio has temporarily shuttered its borders for leisure travelers amid the growing threat of the Omicron variant.
In an announcement, the Baguio City Tourism Office said new requests for leisure travel to the city will not be approved starting January 2.
This includes all pending travel requests inside the city, according to the recent declaration.
However, those with pre-approved travels with QR-coded Tourist Pass will still be permitted to enter the city on their declared travel date.
"Such allowed entry may change in the future but with the prior announcement, so keep posted," it said.
Authorized persons outside of their residence, as well as official travels, may still enter by registering on hdf.baguio.gov.ph, but they will be subject to documentary requirements and health screening.
The closure comes as the country sees a growing number of COVID-19 cases, which experts are attributing to the new Omicron variant. It initially reopened to tourists back in October due to subsiding infections.
Baguio City reported 10 new COVID-19 cases on January 2, with active cases rising to 73.
The city has reported a total of 30,084 cases since the start of the pandemic.
