A forest fire broke out in Camp John Hay, Baguio City on Sunday morning, February 11, according to the Baguio City Public Information Office (PIO).
In a Facebook post, Baguio PIO reported that Baguio Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel, forest rangers, and volunteers have been dispatched to respond to the forest fire that ravages the Voice of America in Camp John Hay.
"Ongoing forest fire at the Voice of America in Camp John Hay early this morning. Baguio fire personnel, forest rangers, and volunteers are on the scene to suppress the fire," it said.
As of this posting, Baguio PIO has not yet reported if the forest fire in Camp John Hay has been extinguished.
The forest fire in Baguio City comes a week after the reported blaze in the forests of Itogon, Bokod, and Atok towns in Benguet.
In another Facebook post, Baguio PIO said BFP Baguio is reminding residents and tourists that lighted cigarette butts and burned garbage are among the causes of grass and forest and structural fire.
"For the month of January this year, five structural fire incidents were already responded to by BFP Baguio," it stated.
The BFP Baguio is said to be advising the residents and tourists in Baguio to practice closing gas tanks, putting off lighted candles, and avoiding octopus' electrical connections to not trigger a fire.
