Baguio City launched an investigation on the outbreak of gastroenteritis cases.
During the Ugnayang Panlungsod press briefing on Wednesday, Baguio City mayor Benjamin Magalong assured that all 67 water sources of the Baguio Water District undergo total dissolved solid (TDS) testing to narrow down the source of the disease.
"Yung mga hindi pumasa sa TDS, iyon na muna ang isasara tapos kukunan ng water sample," Magalong said.
Magalong admitted that the local government has yet to identify the cause of the outbreak.
"Kailangan natin ma-identify kung ano yung common denominator. Galing ba talaga sa water district? O kaya pumalpak yung filtration system ng isang establishment," the mayor stressed.
Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes, Baguio City Health Services Officer, said that the local government recorded cases of diarrhea and abdominal pain as early as December 20.
As of Wednesday, Magalong said that the number of gastroentritis cases rose to 1,609 from 1,490.
The local chief executive added that the government of Baguio City identified 218 affected establishments, including 80 businesses inside a certain mall, and 134 outside the mall.
