The Badjao tribe celebrates with pride and joy as Carla Mae Telmo, a 22-year-old woman from the Badjao community, passed the Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) last November 2022.
In a Facebook post, Telmo shared the examination result, highlighting her name as one of the passers.
“Thank you for another answered prayer, Lord. Your girl with a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus is now an RN.” she captioned.
According to her post, Carla’s first dream was to work in an office, however, the outbreak of gastroenteritis in Badjao children in 2017 made her take the path of medicine. It is her aspiration to give back to the Badjao community as it was once her key to getting a scholarship.
She lives in Barangay Totolan in Dauis town, Bohol, and was raised by her father Carlos, a carpenter, and her mother Merlinda, a housewife.
Aside from being a nursing student, she was also crowned as Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2019 2nd Runner-Up and used her influence to educate and inspire Badjaos.
