The Philippine national men's football team suffered a 2-0 loss to China on Monday, June 6, in the joint qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup at the Sharjah Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.
The Philippine Azkals managed to keep their opponents at bay throughout the first half before the Chinese nationals scored their first goal in the game through a penalty kick by Wu Lei in the 56th minute mark.
China doubled its lead after Wu Xinghan scored another goal in the 65th minute.
The victory allowed China to improve its chances of entering the next round of the World Cup qualifiers, and the next AFC Asian Cup following four wins, one draw, and one loss.
Meanwhile, the Filipinos, who have two wins, one loss, and one draw in the qualifiers, need to win against Guam on June 11, and Maldives on June 15 in order to improve their chances of booking a ticket to the AFC Asian Cup.
