The Philippine national women's volleyball team, led by captain Jia De Guzman, used the 2024 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup for Women as a vital training ground.
For De Guzman, the tournament provided the team with much-needed experience against international opponents, which they had previously lacked.
“We're just going to go back to training because that’s one thing we weren't given before the AVC Challenge Cup,” De Guzman explained.
“Actually, we used the Challenge Cup as a training ground and a simulation for us talaga kasi iba rin 'yung may nakakalaban kami from other countries at iba rin yung nakakalaban namin yung isa’t isa.”
Alas Pilipinas showcased their growth and strength by securing a bronze medal, dominating Australia with a straight-set victory, 25-23, 25-15, 25-7.
Building on their success, the team has now traveled to South Korea for a friendly match against the Korean team Powerful Daegu.
This exhibition match, scheduled for Friday, June 7, at 2 PM in Daegu City, is part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and South Korea.
