Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claims that the coup d'etat plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. involves at least two active police generals in Mindanao, and has links with Former President Rodrigo Duterte
"Mga Davao group ito na tinatawag. Mga dating bata ni Digong," Trillanes said on Wednesday, May 8, during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.
During a press conference last Tuesday, May 7, Trillanes claimed that active and former Philippine National Police officials have been recruiting people for a destabilization plot against President Marcos.
The former senator said that the group acts in haste due to information that the International Criminal Court will issue an arrest warrant against President Duterte by June or July.
The warrant stemmed from the investigation of the ICC on the alleged crimes against humanity committed during an intensified campaign against illegal drugs by the Duterte Administration.
Trillanes said that the group wants to remove President Marcos and replace him with Vice President Sara Duterte, the daughter of President Duterte, by June 30, which will allow her to seek re-election for the top government post in the country.
Trillanes said the group also wants to recruit active members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to the ouster plot.
PNP has already denied the involvement of active and former cops in the alleged ouster plot against the current Administration.
"Even our intelligence units here in the PNP, we have not monitored any police officer who is involved in this so-called destabilization plot and we have not monitored any destabilization plot for that matter," said PCol. Jean Fajardo, spokesperson of PNP, in a press briefing.
