Forty-four people were killed and dozens more wounded after a bomb blasted at a political gathering of a radical Islamic party in northwest Pakistan on Sunday.
More than 100 were injured while17 were in critical condition in the attack targeting Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) party members who had gathered in the town of Khar, close to the border with Afghanistan.
Authorities said that the explosion happened during the gathering of more than 400 members and supporters of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) party under a tent in the Afghan border town of Khar.
The attack's first perpetrator has not been identified. However, the local ISIS branch has already targeted JUI-F party officials because they view them as heretics.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif "strongly condemned" the incident.
"An investigation is currently being conducted, and the prime minister's office has asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for a report," Sharif said in a statement issued by the minister's office.
Social media images from the blast location showed that dead bodies lying around the area and volunteers carrying victims covered in blood to ambulances.
