Former President and now House Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo had encouraged former President Rodrigo Duterte to be active again in politics, according to Senator Christopher 'Bong' Go on Monday, September 12.
In a press statement, Go said Arroyo invited and met Duterte, who was coincidentally in Manila for a medical check up, in an "informal meeting".
Also present during the said meeting were former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and former President Tito Sotto.
"Isang simpleng kamustahan at masayang pagkikita ang nangyari kasama ang mga pinunong naglikod sa bayan sa iba't iabng posisyon o kapasidad noong mga nakaraang administrasyon. Nagbalik-tanaw sila sa panahong nagkakasama sila ngayon sa gobyerno," he said.
"Sa nasabing pagkikita, kinukumbinisi din ni dating pangulong Arroyo si dating pangulong Duterte na maging aktibo muli sa pulitika," Go added.
The Senator said the four former government officials may have differences, but they have one goal — to serve the country.
Prior to this informal meeting, Arroyo was spotted with former Vice President Leni Robredo in a social dinner last September 6.
In a brief statement, the former President said she and Robredo had a chance to discuss the local politics in Bicol.
"I recently had a social dinner with former Vice President Leni Robredo and mutual friends from Bicol. We chatted about Bicol politics," Arroyo said.
