Around 90,000 devotees took part in the ‘Walk of Faith’ as part of the culminating activities of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, according to Quiapo Church.
On the dawn of Sunday, January 8, the clergy joined the procession in honor of the said miraculous image of Jesus, the Black Nazarene, right after the midnight mass.
It started at 1:30 am and lasted for about 2 hours, from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta to Quiapo Church. Devotees brought candles and small images of the Black Nazarene while praying and singing worship songs.
The activity temporarily replaced ‘Traslacion’ for this year, due to the pandemic.
The traditional ‘Traslacion’ is a long procession with the image of the Black Nazarene, where thousands of devotees get close to the image for healing and good fortune.
"Sa wakas matapos ang dalawang taon, nagbabalik tayo dito. Pinabalik tayo dito ni Hesus Nazareno hindi upang mapakita lang sa buong mundo kung gaano natin siya ka-mahal kundi upang mapakita natin sa kanya mismo, kay Hesus Nazareno, kung gaano natin siya kamahal," Fr. Jun Sescon Jr. said in his homily during the midnight mass.
(Finally, after 2 years, we have returned here. Jesus the Nazarene sent us back here not to show the world how much we love him but to show himself how much we love him.)
