A local official reported on Saturday that almost 2,000 individuals, or a total of 600 families, have been evacuated within the active Mayon Volcano's 6-kilometer permanent danger zone in Albay since Friday.

According to the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO), 4,749 families, or 18,184 people, live in the permanent danger zone.

The APSEMO's research leader, Eugene Escobar, said that the evacuation of the remaining people in six towns is still on, with the goal of transferring all of them to temporary shelters.

The Albay provincial government declared a state of calamity on Friday, triggering the immediate release of P30 million in catastrophe funds.

However, Albay Governor Edcel Greco Lagman stated that the cash, intended to meet evacuees' needs, will only last 15 to 20 days.

The Mayon volcano's permanent danger zone has been under evacuation orders since Thursday when state seismologists warned of "potential explosive activity within weeks or even days."

Phivolcs chief Teresito Bacolcol said on Thursday that Mayon was ripe for another eruption, which occurs every 3–10 years.

When Mayon erupted last year, tens of thousands of people were displaced.
