The oldest tattoo artist is now the oldest girl cover for Vogue Philippines!

Apo Maria "Whang-Od" Oggay, a Kalinga tattoo artist, graces the April beauty issue of Vogue Philippines.

The fashion magazine mentioned in an Instagram post that the Kalinga tattoo artist imprinted the Kalinga tribe's symbols of strength, bravery, and beauty on the skin of thousands of people who made the pilgrimage to Buscalan.

The 106-year-old mambabatok is seen looking like a fine wine in her simplest beauty, wearing only red lipstick, a black top, colorful beaded accessories, and tattoos on her chest and arms.

Whang-Od began tattooing at the age of 15 and uses a mixture of charcoal and water for ink, which he taps into the skin through the thorny end of a calamansi or pomelo tree.

Meanwhile, Whang-Od received the Dangal ng Haraya Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in 2018.

Whang-Od was nominated for the National Living Treasures Award in 2017.
