The motorist who was shot in the head during a viral road rage incident in Antipolo has died, city police chief Lt. Col. Ryan Manongdo announced on Monday.
In a Facebook Live broadcast, Manongdo confirmed that they had received an official report from the hospital stating that the 52-year-old victim had passed away.
Based on earlier reports, the victim, identified by the alias "Peter," was reportedly undergoing surgery after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
"Yung nakahiga, yung pinutukan sa ulo, ngayon po officially validated na to. Nakatanggap na po kami ng official report sa hospital na patay siya ngayong hapon, habang sinasampa namin yung complaint," said Manongdo.
Manongdo noted that they plan to amend the frustrated murder charge filed against the suspect on April 2.
In the viral video, the suspect, known by the alias "Ken," was seen engaging in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation along a highway in Antipolo.
Authorities reported that the confrontation was allegedly sparked by a traffic bottleneck, with both parties trying to overtake each other. The motorcycle rider, who found himself squeezed between vehicles alongside the suspect’s SUV, reportedly contacted his father—who was on a separate motorcycle—using a communication device.
Police recovered eight bullet shells from the scene, indicating that eight rounds were fired from a 9mm gun during the incident.
Three other individuals sustained gunshot wounds, including the suspect’s wife, who was already discharged from the hospital. Another victim was also discharged, while one remains under recovery.
Ken attempted to flee the scene in his black Toyota Fortuner but was intercepted at a border control checkpoint, which was also serving as an election security checkpoint, before 6 PM.
The 28-year-old suspect has a license to own and possess firearms but does not have a permit to carry one amid the election gun ban.
