The fifth-grade student who was slapped by his teacher died due to ‘global brain edema, according to the death certificate issued by Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.

Based on the death certificate issued by the hospital, the 14-year-old Francis Jay Gumikib suffered brain edema, or inflammation of the brain, for three days and experienced intraparenchymal hemorrhage before he died, six days after he was admitted to the hospital.

Moreover, the document indicated that Gumikib also experienced significant conditions that contributed to his death, including child physical abuse and pulmonary tuberculosis, of which his mother, Elena Minngoy, was unaware of the illnesses that the victim suffered before dying.

It can be recalled that Gumikib was rushed immediately to the hospital when he showed several symptoms like nausea, eye pain, vomiting, and ear pain.

Moreover, the pupil also vomited blood while in the emergency room, and he was diagnosed with lung disease later on.

It was reported that Gumikib reported his noisy classmates when his teacher, Mirasol Sison, grabbed his collar, yanked his hair, and slapped him.

The elementary pupil was still able to attend his classes for three days and experienced symptoms, so he was admitted to the hospital and later died.
