Protest groups are finalizing plans for a fresh anti-corruption rally on February 25 to coincide with the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, aiming to spotlight alleged anomalies in flood control projects, pork barrel insertions, and other budget-related issues.

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Secretary General Mon Palatino said the mobilization will serve as a reminder that, despite the legacy of People Power, “a rotten political system” persists. He said demonstrators intend to amplify calls for accountability over the alleged misuse of public funds and what they describe as a corrupt budget process.

Palatino added that the protest will also challenge what the group sees as efforts by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte to evade accountability by leveraging political influence.

Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said security preparations are in place for the planned demonstrations. NCRPO Regional Director PMGen. Anthony Aberin said up to 14,000 police personnel may be deployed to ensure public safety and orderly conduct of the rally.

Authorities said they are not monitoring any specific threats related to the February 25 activities but will maintain heightened visibility in key areas along EDSA as a precaution.
