The city government of Angeles City in Pampanga announced the suspension of in-person classes at all levels in public and private schools from March 6 to 10.
In a memorandum issued by Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. on March 1, the decision was due to the intention of various transport groups to suspend nationwide operations for one week in protest to modernization of public utility vehicles (PUV).
"In anticipation of the potential halt in transportation and its subsequent effect on the commuting public, especially students attending their classes, it is necessary to suspend [in-person] classes during the nationwide transport strike," it read.
The city mayor encouraged schools to conduct modular classes and online classes to avoid disruptions in the academic calendar.
Meanwhile, Lazatin confirmed the deployment of buses for free rides during the week-long strike.
The free ride will start on March 6, from 5 AM to midnight with 10 deployed Philippine Rabbit buses in five routes including the Cutud-Sapang Maisac boundary, Balibago-Dau boundary, Cutcut-Porac boundary, and Sto. Domingo-San Fernando boundary, and Mining-Malino boundary.
