The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Sunday that the water levels of Angat Dam and five other dams in Luzon continued to drop despite the rain experienced in many areas in the country due to southwest monsoon last week.

PAGASA said that the water level of Angat Dam decreased by 0.23 meters as of 6:00 a.m. on Sunday. The water level is now 186.55 meter from its previous level of 186.78 meters.

However, it noted Angat Dam is still 3.97 meters higher than its rule curve elevation of 182.58 meters to fulfill its functions.

In an interview, National Water Resources Board (NWRB) executive director Sevillo David Jr. said that over one million connections would be affected by the rotational water interruptions once the 52 cms water allocation of the two Metro Manila concessionaires ends on June 30.

David explained that the NWRB can no longer accommodate Manila Water if there is another extension of the 52 cms water allocation for Maynilad Water Services Inc. due to the impending threat of the El Niño phenomenon.

Moreover, the current 52 cm2 water allocation for the two concessionaires will take effect until June 30 this year, following the NWRB’s authorization to extend it for another 15 days.

Apart from Angat Dam, the PAGASA reported that the water level at Ipo Dam decreased to 99.05 meters as compared to its previous level of 99.14 meters.

Binga Dam in Benguet, meanwhile, dropped to 571.42 meters from its level of 572.03 meters on Sunday.

Pantabangan Dam, located in Nueva Ecija, decreased by 0.10 meters in its water level after it dropped to 183.37 meters compared to its previous level of 183.47 meters,.

The Magat Dam in Isabela dropped to 168.10 meters from its previous record of 168.46 meters.

The Caliraya Dam in Laguna also decreased by 286.17 meters compared to its previous level of 286.20 meters.
