Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara assured teachers of the strict implementation of the 6-hour teaching policy as outlined in Republic Act No. 4670, also known as the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers.
The law specifies that teachers engaged in actual classroom instruction shall not be required to render more than six hours of classroom teaching per day.
Two hours are allocated for other ancillary tasks, such as preparation and correction of exercises, which may be done within or outside school premises.
The newly installed DepEd secretary assured teachers that their concerns and complaints regarding maximum teaching hours are being heard.
Additionally, Angara reported that DepEd receives complaints about teachers being required to teach subjects beyond their expertise and qualifications.
Angara mentioned that the department will continue to develop resolutions to address issues related to overworked and burned-out teachers in the country.
