Filipina weightlifter Elreen Ando missed out of a podium finish in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Ando registered a total lift of 230 kilograms on Thursday, August 8, in the women's weightlifting 59 kilograms event, and finished at sixth place in the tournament.
The 25-year old athlete set a new personal best in the clean and jerk after she lifted 130 kilograms in her third attempt.
The 2023 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist also lifted 100 kilograms in the snatch portion after two attempts, and tried to lift 102 kilograms in her last attempt but did not succeed.
Shifan Luo of China grabbed the gold medal, and set Olympic records after she registered a total lift of 241 kilograms: 107 kilograms in snatch, and 134 kilograms in the clean and jerk.
Canadian weightlifter Maude Charron placed second with a total lift of 236 kilograms, while Hsing-Chun Kuo of Chinese Taipei registered a total lift of 235 kilograms to earn the last spot in the podium.
The Paris Games marked the second Olympics appearance of Ando, who competed in the previous edition held in Tokyo, Japan.
She finished at seventh place in the women's weightlifting 64 kilograms division during the Tokyo Olympics.
As of writing, the Philippines has won two gold medals and two bronze medals in the ongoing 33rd Olympics, which will end on Sunday, August 11.
